Online meeting

Last week we met together as a group online. We used Google+, which I had never used before. Overall it was a good experience and I learned a few things. I didn't realize I had to download something onto my computer before being able to join the video call, so that took a minute to download before I could join my teammates. I also realized how much I like Google+ and how easy it is to use. We reviewed over what we had accomplished, and made plans for what we were going to do before we met again in-person. Online meetings are a convenient and effective way to follow-up and plan, in order to take away travel time. Now that I have learned about Google+, we decided to use it, instead of Skype, to get together as a family even while we’re living all over the world. I’ll also be able to use it for any future group meetings.

Priorities

In one of my classes this week we talked about priorities. My professor asked us to write down the things in our lives that compete for our attention, devotion, time, thoughts, and hearts. He then had us rate each one numerically as to the importance to us.  Each of us has things in our lives that are important to us, or that we know we should do. The way we spend our time shows how we value each of these things, and which our priorities are. Writing down everything in my life that is important to me made me think about what my priorities really are. I found it difficult to rate which one came first; I was stuck because some things I knew were my priority, but I wasn’t spending as much time as I should or would like to on them. It brought to my attention the areas in my life that I want to strengthen and spend more time on. I want to focus on the priorities in my life by spending time on the things that are most important.

Rope swings and a broken finger

On Memorial Day, I was able to go to the Mona rope swings. For those of you who haven’t been, it’s a little lake with three different ropes that you can swing into the lake on. First, I did the little one and got a couple jumps in. Then, taking the challenge, I decided to try the bigger rope swing. It was all great until..SNAP! My finger had been stuck in the knot, so at the point where all your body weight pulls down, it pulled down on my finger too. Instantly, I fell down into the water. At first I just thought, “Dang, that was probably the funniest, most ridiculous flop into the water anyone has ever seen.” But then, the pain hit. Turns out, I broke my finger!
Some people asked me afterwards if it was worth it. The answer is: yes! Something I learned is that even when there’s a risk of getting hurt, you just have to go for it. If you don’t, you’ll never know what you missed. This doesn’t apply only to fun or thrill-seeking adventures, but to life itself. Life is about taking on challenges, and that’s the one way we can grow. Once this finger heals up, I’m going right back to that rope swing and trying it again. And that time, I’ll conquer it.
